4 Benefits of Ductless Mini Split Heat Pumps

Even if your home has a traditional, central air conditioner, you’ve undoubtedly seen a ductless cooling system. Perhaps you’ve rented a place on Airbnb, stayed in a motel, or been in a shop that had a wall-mounted mini split in one of the rooms.

It’s true that ductless mini splits are becoming more and more popular among homeowners across the US. That’s because these units are not just energy efficient, but they also provide amazing zone control. Read on to learn about four benefits of ductless mini split heat pumps.

#1. They provide both heating and cooling

Homeowners who need to replace their air conditioning system find the fact that a mini split system works as both an air conditioner and a heater to be highly appealing. If you have a heating system that’s older and that you know needs to be replaced soon, getting a mini split is essentially getting two systems for the price of one.

You may be worried that a system that provides both heating and cooling isn’t that great at cooling compared to a central AC, and this would be a valid concern to have here in Georgia if it were true. But it helps to think of a mini split (which uses heat pump technology) as an AC with an extra feature that allows it to work as a heater, too.

#2. They make everyone in your household comfortable

It seems like just about every household has differing opinions about what the thermostat should be set at. Some like it cooler and some like it warmer. Well, get ready for the thermostat wars to be over.

That’s because a mini split system consists of wall-mounted air handlers in every room of your home. So the person who runs hot can set the thermostat of their mini split at a much lower temperature than the person who’s always freezing. You’ll still need to compromise on communal areas of your home but we’ll leave you to work that out.

#3. They’re the eco-friendly option

If you like to make eco-friendly choices, a mini split is probably the most eco-friendly air conditioner. That’s because it uses about half the amount of electricity as a standard, central AC.

And you’ll also be happy to hear that mini splits are better at dehumidifying the air than central AC units. That means more comfort and a cheaper cost to you.

#4 They’ll save you money in the long run

Although a mini split system is more expensive to purchase and install (just think of all those air handlers) upfront, you’ll enjoy continued savings for as long as you own the system. That’s because they use less energy.

Remember that customization we mentioned? It’s easy to only heat or cool 1–2 rooms with a mini split vs heating and cooling your entire home (which is what a central system does). When you use your system less, you’ll automatically reduce your energy costs. And those savings will add up over time.
