Watch for Warning Signs Your Commercial AC Is Failing

covered-commercial-hvac-fans

We’re in the middle of a hot summer, and if you own or operate a business, you’ll rely on the air conditioner system to keep the gears of operations running. This applies whether you run an office that needs productive employees, a store or restaurant that requires happy customers, or a facility that must have proper temperature conditions to protect equipment and processes. There’s just no getting around the importance of your AC.

If your commercial air conditioning system breaks down on you abruptly this summer, it can mean lost revenue until you’re able to have it fixed, or (in a worst-case scenario) completely replaced. Moving fast to have commercial AC repair in Vidalia, GA done before an AC failure is critical.

But how can you know you’ve got an AC headed for a breakdown? Below, we’ll go through several of the major signs to look for.

Warning Signs of Commercial AC Failure

  • Unusual noises: If your commercial AC unit is making strange sounds like grinding, banging, or hissing, it’s a strong indicator that something is wrong. These noises often point to mechanical issues that need immediate attention. If your air conditioning unit is located on the roof of your building, you may hear these noises coming through the vents.
  • Decreased airflow: Notice that the airflow from the vents isn’t as strong as it used to be? This can be a sign of blocked ducts, a failing blower motor, or other issues that could soon lead to a complete system failure.
  • Inconsistent temperatures: If different areas of your business are experiencing varying temperatures, it could mean your AC is struggling to distribute air properly, which can be a sign of an underlying problem. Pay close attention to employees, clients, customers, etc. complaining about hot spots around the facility.
  • High humidity levels: An efficient AC system not only cools the air but also removes humidity (although an AC is not specifically used for dehumidification). If your business is feeling more humid than usual, it could indicate your AC isn’t functioning correctly.
  • Frequent cycling: Your commercial AC should go through regular cooling cycles, no matter the weather. These cycles will usually last for more than 15 minutes. If you notice the AC turning on and off more frequently, such as every five minutes or so, it could be a sign of a malfunctioning thermostat or other issues. This short cycling will also put immense strain on the AC and run up operating costs.
  • Rising energy bills: An unexpected increase in energy costs without a corresponding increase in usage is often a sign that your AC is working harder than it should be, likely due to a malfunction.

If you notice any of these warning signs, it’s essential to act quickly. Ignoring the problem can lead to more significant issues and costly repairs down the line. We recommend calling our technicians to look into the AC and see what needs to be done. Schedule a consultation or repair service and we’ll keep your business cool and comfortable all summer long.
